25 Random Things, Continued:
18) During the college and grad school years (and a few years thereafter), I became very involved in sailboat racing. I practiced with & eventually coached the UW Sailing Team, taught sailing & coached racing at the Laurelhurst Beach Club and Seattle Yacht Club, raced Thistles, Tasars, Lasers, and various PHRF keelboats. I became an Instructor Trainer for the US Sailing Association, and taught sailing instructors and coaches all over the country for the next few years as a part-time gig. My boats had Grateful Dead names: my Thistle was called "Touch of Gray" and my Tasar was "Box of Rain." I was at the Thistle Nationals in Cleveland, OH, when Jerry Garcia died in 1995.
