25 Random things about me, continued (picking up around the college years):
10) Somewhere in here is the Jesus-freak chapter of life. I guess this had its roots in junior high, and continued on through college, although evolving form over time. Raised a Catholic, but in a neighborhood where I was surrounded by Evangelicals, I wound my way through CCD, Baptist Sunday School, Pentecostal bible studies, Jesus-Freak-on-the-shores-of-Lake-Sammamish Bible Camp, and Young Life. My parents divorced when I was 18, and it was around then that I became my most bible-thumping. Even at my most religious peak, though, I still never believed that there was only one way to God, but I did believe that Christianity was my way there. This lasted through early college, at which point my involvement in CYO Summer Camps (see item 12) brought me back towards Catholicism. By the end of college, I was a social-justice-driven, vegetarian, environmentalist, young-democrat-card-carrying-liberal hippie, who also happened to find amazing community within the young Catholic adult circle. Senior year of college I worked as a Campus Minister in Social Justice at the St. Thomas More Student Center at WAZZU, where I really did get to work on some awesome humanitarian projects. Much later, I evolved into an atheist ("soulful athiest")...that's a conversation for over cocktails, though.
