Blue Bridge [Olympic Sculpture Park, Seattle] Canon EOS 20D w/10-22mm Super Wide Angle Lens

We had an exceptionally lovely day in Seattle today, the kind of day that makes you believe it might be spring. I went out without a coat a scarf, and wasn't cold at all.

Seattle winters can be dreary. It's not so much the rain that gets to me as the lack of light. In the winter, it's dark when I get to work in the morning, and dark when I get home, and many of the daylight hours in between are overcast and dim. The lack of brightness day after day seeps into the soul and depresses the spirit. Most of february my mood wasn't up to par with my usually cheeriness, but I recognized that it was seasonal and would pass, and it did. I'm already perking up, although I notice many around me who are still bogged down in the haze of Seattle gray.

But days like to day remind me that spring really is around the corner, and there is no place as beautiful as the Pacific Northwest in the sunny months.

I have promised myself, though, that from now on, I'm taking a vacation to someplace sunny every single winter. Any ideas for affordable midwinter getaways or great ways to travel on the cheap?

Mexico, definitly, but not the touristy Mexico. Go somewhere gritty like Mexico City, climb a mountain and visit the pyramids. Not only do you get some sunshine, but you also get the mental satisfaction of a foreign language and culture. Oh, and it's cheap. Last time I was there, I spent more on airfare than I did on my combined expensed for 9 days.

Ask me for travel advice anytime! I second Mexico. Also, there's the lovely American South West too - lots of pueblo ruins and little hotspring desert haciendas in New Mexico. *mwah*
