Seattle skyline [Capitol Hill] Canon EOS-1D Mark II w/70-200mm f2.8 L Zoom

When I was a kid, I wanted to be a country girl. Daisy Duke was my idol. I was 100% horse-crazy, and I'd daydream about living on a horse farm, with fields and trails, and no neighbors for miles. I wanted to live in the country. We lived in the suburbs.

But I grew up to be a city girl. A right-in-the-heart if it city-dweller, and I love it. Now, I can't imagine living anywhere but in the fun part of the city, and right now that means Capitol Hill, in Seattle, probably one of our city's most colorful, vibrant, artistic, and eclectic neighborhoods. I love being able to walk to everything I need or want. I love having so many of my friends living in my neighborhood. I love getting my morning coffee from Kevin, at the People's Republic of Koffee, right around the corner from my house. I love hooping in Cal Anderson Park, right across the street, on every sunny day. I love people watching on Broadway and 15th. I love that I can walk to my yoga studio in less than 5 minutes, that my commute to work takes l0 minutes, that I can be downtown by bus in 15 minutes. I love running into my friends and neighbors every time I leave my house. Living in the city is fun.

No question about me, I was born to live in the city. For all that I currently live right on the raw edge of the "bad part" of Portland's inner city, I am doing fairly well here. The light-rail line is about fifteen minutes' walk away, while a bus downtown is much closer. At that point I can go anywhere I like, and there are plenty of places to go and views to enjoy.

Did I mention the trees? Portland has trees. Everywhere. I love this town.

I love it that I can bump in to you at the doggie store even though I don't live in capitol hill, especially sharing a coffee afterwards. As for my own neighborhood, I am deeply in love with Seward Park, enchanted by its fern gully forests, nesting bald eagles, toadstools and nurse logs; not to mention the edges of the lakeside, some areas appropriate for swimming, others just for lily pad meditations. I pedal to yoga on a blue bike where I greet warm and opening hearts in a breath symphony that sounds like the ocean. Not only am I enjoying being city girl (at present), but I can hardly imagine a better fit for me. Thanks for reminding me to give thanks, Dawn! :-)

This is totally off the subject, but I noticed that you took this with a 1D. When did you pick up that hot toy? Do you like it? My 10D was stolen a couple weeks ago and I'm toying with what to replace it with 30D...1D...5D...?
