Wainapanapa Black Sand Beach [Maui] Canon EOS 20D w/70-200 f4 L Zoom
Today I drove Maui's famous Road to Hana. It's an amazingly lush, green drive, along a narrow and winding road that travels the north shore of the island. It's the tropical drive of dreams. The scenery is breathtaking, with frequent waterfalls, steep hillsides covered in jungle every shade of green, and miles of rocky coastline and impossibly blue ocean. Even with my guidebook all marked up, it was impossible to see all of the sights in one day.
As beautiful as the Hana Highway is, I kind of wished I'd skipped it in favor of a day of snorkeling, or maybe SCUBA diving. While it's one of the prettiest places I've ever been, it reminded me that I'm the kind of person that likes doing things more than seeing things. I wish I had more days here so I could do it all without feeling like I gave up a day of being in the water in order to see more of Maui.
Another day in paradise ended with hooping on the beach as the sunset, and yoga on the beach under starlight. Now I'm off to bed to dream about the snorkel trip to Molokini Island that I have planned for the morning. Did I mention that I love Maui?

i love this park. i once camped here for a night, or at least part of a night. i pulled in late, not really knowing that i needed a pass purchased back in wailuku, figuring i could pay in the morning. WRONG. i was rudely awoken in the middle of the night by a very unsympathetic park ranger who told me that people like me ruined the parks for everyone by sneaking in and expecting to not pay.
though i insisted i'd pay in the morning, or now, that wasn't the right answer. apparently, one must plan ahead and get that pass back in wailuki town at the offices.
so at 4am, i packed it all up, in the rain and groggily headed out looking for a place to sleep. i finally just pulled over at the next semi secluded beach cove, threw the bag on the ground and slept for a couple more hours.
don't know why i related that, its just what i think about then i think of that park. i'd like to go back WITH a pass sometime and stay longer. beautiful, beautiful. glad you were able to experience hana..that drive is something else too.
heart to you
