This past friday at the Oracle Gathering I picked up a friend's hula hoop, and then found that I couldn't put it down for the rest of the weekend. It seems I've found a new passion: Hooping! Dancing with a hoop is mesmerizing. The constant swirling of the giant circle around me spun me down to a peacefulness that's hard to explain. I feel centered and renewed, the best I've felt in months.
Today I bought supplies and then made my own hoops. Then, this evening there was a gathering of hoopers at Gasworks park, where I took this photo of Ariel. I had a great time hooping with some neat people and learning new tricks. I can't wait to get out tomorrow and hoop some more.
Many, many photos to come (from Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Rainier, The Oracle Gathering, and hooping), but I'm not sure if I can discipline myself enough tomorrow to get some more on line, when all I want to do is head to the park and hoop. Maybe it will rain...

You met Ariel!? Man, I've "known" Ariel for like five years now and never once met her IRL. You're closing loops I haven't been able to close for years.
How weird.

Hooping does not always lend itself gracefully to photographs. All too often, hooping that feels good looks, well, gimpy. Lots of torqued arms and contorted faces. Well, NO LONGER! Magical Dawn managed to take what might be my favorite photo of me hoop...

Odd. Usually whatever happens in the US will happen 10 years later in Europe. But I'm pretty sure this was a craze once before when I was a kid in the 70's ... ;)
Oh well, better prepare myself then; I'll get my hoop, or as they say in London: I'll get me 'oop.
