Dad and Daughter, Burning Man 2003, Nikon Coolpix 990

This week's Photo Friday theme is Dad. I sorted through a lot of photos before choosing this one, including photos of Michael and the kids, my own dad, and even a lot of photos of other kids and other dads. I finally selected this one, which is of Michael and Kalea on top of the Landcruiser at dusk right after we arrived at Burning Man last year. Burning Man reflects a lot of the energy that is at the core of Michael's soul, and sharing it with Kalea has been one of his great joys.

Right now, Michael's out of town at the Oregon Country Fair working on a pre-fair crew. The kids and I join him next thursday. I realized as he was leaving that it was the first time since we've been together that we've really been apart, and I'm surprised to find that I actually miss him. I've always been a person who loves privacy and secretly enjoyed having the house to myself, but after a year and a half of living surrounded by the Holden pod, the house seems awfully empty when there's no one here but the dogs and I. We miss the rest of our family.
