A few days ago my friend Emily Jo sent me one of those emails where you answer a bunch of questions, send the answers to your friends, and try to get them to forward the chain letter to their friends. Generally, I don't answer these things, but I liked some of these questions (and had some spare time), so I answered them. Rather than spam my friends, though, I'm posting the answers here.
If you like one of the questions, post your answer in the comments. If you like a bunch of them, post them on your website and leave a link here!
1. IF YOU COULD BUILD A HOUSE ANYWHERE, WHERE WOULD IT
BE?
Hmm. I really have no idea. I really like living in the northwest, but there are so many great places I've been, and so many more I've never been to, I can't really name just one. But for starters, a nice, simple 4-season weekend/getaway cabin on a lake within one or two hours of Seattle would be awesome...big enough for some guests, river rock fireplace, wood floors with yummy rugs, lotsa pillows, remote enough for skinny dipping and loud music, and a hot tub, of course...
2. WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE ARTICLE OF CLOTHING?
Honestly? I really like to wear short shorts, especially my hot pink furry ones. I also like my black velvet ones. Yep, short shorts.
3. FAVORITE PHYSICAL FEATURE OF THE OPPOSITE SEX?
Hair, especially if it's somewhere between chin and shoulder-length (not short, not to long). Also smiles. And eyes. And bodies, definitely bodies. OK, pretty much all the features of the opposite sex are good! Most of the features of the same sex are pretty nice, too.
4. WHAT'S THE LAST CD THAT YOU BOUGHT?
CD? I guess the last CD I actually bought was John Mayer, Room for Squares, several years ago. I can't really see any reason to own CD's anymore, since I play all my music off of my Powerbook or iPod...
5. WHERE IS YOUR FAVORITE PLACE TO BE?
Burning Man, out on the open playa where the sounds of electronic music are distant and there is art to be found in any direction, at night, midweek, with just a few loved ones.
6. WHERE'S YOUR LEAST FAVORITE PLACE TO BE?
Grocery stores and restrooms. What a waste of time.
7. WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE PLACE TO BE MASSAGED?
Burning Man, mid-afternoon. Oh wait, not where...what...in that case, everywhere, anywhere. But if I had to pick just one part, my back.
8. WHAT'S MOST IMPORTANT, STRONG IN MIND OR STRONG IN
BODY?
Both are good. But I guess I'm particularly drawn to strong convictions.
9. WHAT TIME DO YOU WAKE UP IN THE MORNING?
On my own accord, between 9 and 10, and then lay in bed and read for an hour. For work...yikes...5:50...evil!
10. WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE KITCHEN APPLIANCE?
The Holdens. They are all gourmet cooks.
11. WHAT MAKES YOU REALLY ANGRY?
Fundamentalists. Tim Eyman initiatives (asinine Washington initiative writer). Stupid Washington voters who vote for things that cost lots of money, then vote to take away funding for government programs and infrastructure. The Bush administration. People who hate others just because they are different from themselves. People who force their morals and religion on other people.
12. If YOU COULD PLAY ANY INSTRUMENT, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Saxophone. Or piano. I already know how to play the guitar and the cello.
13. FAVORITE COLOR?
Lately it's red. I used to hate red, never ever wore it. Now I wear it all the time. I like blue now, too, never liked blue before either. I also like orange. And green. And purple. Yellow's nice too. Basically all the colors are my favorite, especially if they sparkle or blink, too.
14. WHICH DO YOU PREFER, SPORTS CAR OR SUV?
Do I have to prefer one? I prefer VW buses. And art cars.
15. DO YOU BELIEVE IN AFTERLIFE?
Tough one. I guess not really. But I have no idea; maybe. My Catholic upbringing cringes at this answer.
16. FAVORITE CHILDREN'S BOOK?
Chronicles of Narnia. Little House on the Prairie series. The Boxcar Children. Harry Potter.
17. FAVORITE SEASON?
Summer summer summer summer summer....
18. WHAT'S YOUR LEAST FAVORITE HOUSEHOLD CHORE?
All of them. I hate housework. Except washing dishes, I guess that's ok if I have to do something, as long as they're newly-dirty dishes and not ones that have been in the sink for a week. I hate washing moldy dishes.
19. IF YOU COULD HAVE ONE SUPER POWER, WHAT WOULD IT
BE?
Super power? I guess the ability to feel 100% ready for action after only 1 hour of sleep, or the ability to feel fully energized at the snap of my fingers. Is that a super power?
20. DO YOU HAVE ANY TATTOOS? WHAT/WHERE?
Nope. But I have a the remains of a fake one one my ass. I'm thinking about getting one on my back, but I have no idea what I'd get. I wanted to get my belly button pierced, but 2 shops told me they wouldn't do it because I have the wrong belly button anatomy. Whodda thunk it?
21. CAN YOU JUGGLE?
Absolutely not. No eye-hand coordination whatsoever. Can't even catch a ball thrown at me half the time.
22. NAME THE ONE PERSON FROM YOUR PAST YOU WISH YOU
COULD GO BACK AND TALK WITH?
Jeremy McIntyre, a dear friend who died in an avalanche in 1999.
23. WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE DAY?
I suppose saturday, since that's when most of the funnest stuff happens. But really any day where I have no obligations.
24. WHAT'S LYING ON YOUR DRESSER RIGHT NOW?
Some clothes, probably both clean and dirty. 2 small jewelry boxes and some random inexpensive jewelry. An handful of change. Ticket stubs. Random pieces of blinky things that don't blink anymore. Gum wrappers. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Michael's box of useful things. Facial cream, several kinds. Receipts. Other stuff. Lots of other stuff.
25. WHICH DO YOU PREFER, SUSHI OR HAMBURGER?
Like there's any choice? Sushi. But a good home-made veggie burger can be nice...
26. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE FLOWER?
All of them. Especially the brightly colored daisy-like ones. The brighter the better.
27. IF YOU COULD PICK WHAT YOU DO FOR A LIVING, WHAT
WOULD YOU DO?
Camp counselor. Sailing instructor. School counselor. Nurse. We do get to pick, don't we? I'm not sure what I'm going to pick next, though...

I used to play the cello, too. :)

I love your answers. . . especially no. 7 :)

Art cars! I *love* art cars.
Your answers were great. Bet you'd be the coolest person to hang around with.
Thanks for posting this. I'm going to copy this list and ask my friends the same questions. It looks like a great way to draw people out and learn more about them.

Question 8.
Strong mind over strong body anytime. Yeah, i wish i had a rock hard body like_________. But i don't, and that's ok. I'd rather have a sharp mind, like Yoda. You see how little he is, yet very strong. That's where it's at.
But that's me.

Yah...I normally have nothing to do with these chain letter thingys either. Just like you though, I liked the questions. Also, the post was from my childhood friend who I lost contact with since 1997. I figured, hey, if I answer these questions, I bet she'd get to know me a lil' bit better...
Oh, and about Yoda, James....don't forget Yoda's ability to open up a can o' jedi whoop-ass like he did in Attack of the Clones--the *only* good thing in that damn movie.

You asked for it, you got it. :) Here you go. . .
1. IF YOU COULD BUILD A HOUSE ANYWHERE, WHERE WOULD IT BE?
Somewhere tropical is the first thing that leaps to mind, but I too love it up here in the Pacific NW. I'd love to have one near base camp at Mt. Rainier -- one in Snoqualmie and one down on a beach somewhere. And be able to magically transport myself from one to the other, without having to get in a car. :)
2. WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE ARTICLE OF CLOTHING?
I'd have to say my uggs. And my toe ring. (but does that count as clothing?)
3. FAVORITE PHYSICAL FEATURE OF THE OPPOSITE SEX?
I love what you wrote. Ditto. :)
4. WHAT'S THE LAST CD THAT YOU BOUGHT?
Last CD was um. . . Sarah McLachlan's Mirrorball. It's been a while.
5. WHERE IS YOUR FAVORITE PLACE TO BE?
Right now it would have to be at Narada Falls, Mt. Rainier.
6. WHERE'S YOUR LEAST FAVORITE PLACE TO BE?
Sitting. In. Traffic.
7. WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE PLACE TO BE MASSAGED?
Ditto -- back, shoulders, neck.
8. WHAT'S MOST IMPORTANT, STRONG IN MIND OR STRONG IN BODY?
Both -- and strong in heart, too.
9. WHAT TIME DO YOU WAKE UP IN THE MORNING?
By 6:30 am. I am *so* not a morning person tho.
10. WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE KITCHEN APPLIANCE?
It would have to be the timer on the microwave. I use that for everything.
11. WHAT MAKES YOU REALLY ANGRY?
People who can't tell the truth. And bigots. But generally I don't get angry, it's too uncathartic an emotion.
12. If YOU COULD PLAY ANY INSTRUMENT, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
The violin. Definitely the violin.
13. FAVORITE COLOR?
I love what Proust once said for this, "Beauty lies not in colors but in their harmony."
14. WHICH DO YOU PREFER, SPORTS CAR OR SUV?
Neither, but lately I've been sort of eyeing those mini Coopers. Or Cooper minis. But my dream car would have to be a black 1965 Mustang, now that's a car!
15. DO YOU BELIEVE IN AFTERLIFE?
No, I believe when you die that's it.
16. FAVORITE CHILDREN'S BOOK?
The Bros. Grimm; just about anything by Dr. Seuss. . . and the 'If you give a pig a pancake. . . (or a mouse a cookie or a moose a muffin). . . series'
17. FAVORITE SEASON?
Spring -- so hopeful and full of promise and right before Summer. . .
18. WHAT'S YOUR LEAST FAVORITE HOUSEHOLD CHORE?
Scrubbing floors. . .
19. IF YOU COULD HAVE ONE SUPER POWER, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Instant transport. Like Sam and Jeannie had -- blink my eyes and whoosh! wherever I want to be, there I am. Now *that* would be awesome.
20. DO YOU HAVE ANY TATTOOS? WHAT/WHERE?
Um no, and don't plan on it.
21. CAN YOU JUGGLE?
Nope. But I love to watch - does that count?
22. NAME THE ONE PERSON FROM YOUR PAST YOU WISH YOU COULD GO BACK AND TALK WITH?
My Mom.
23. WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE DAY?
Saturdays are the best.
24. WHAT'S LYING ON YOUR DRESSER RIGHT NOW?
Framed family photos, a bottle of lotion, some jewelry, alarm clock, a big chunk of Brazilian Amethyst, a ponytail holder, perfume, and my matryoshka doll collection.
25. WHICH DO YOU PREFER, SUSHI OR HAMBURGER?
Like there's any choice? Sushi. Especially at Benihana's downtown. They have the most awesome sushi bar.
26. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE FLOWER?
Columbine. I can't pick just one tho -- I love roses, orchids and tulips.
27. IF YOU COULD PICK WHAT YOU DO FOR A LIVING, WHAT WOULD YOU DO?
To get paid to take pictures.
That would be a dream come true.

So, what is your belly button anatomy as referenced in question twenty? A friend and I are planning to get belly button piercings as a reward for getting ourselves into shape and, no joke, my belly button looks like an eye. I am paranoid that I can't get it pierced, but I had never heard of anyone having the incorrect type of BB to get it pierced. I guess my paranoia wasn't entirely unfounded.

Okay Dawn, i did the thing. It kept me entertained for hours in between calls at work. So entertained in fact that when I heard the beep and someone came online, I was getting rather annoyed. Don't you see I'm filling out what my favorite flower is, leave me alone. Alot of blood, sweat and tears went into my answers so I hope you read them by clicking the convenient link above. =) Ciao! Mike

I got turned down for the bellybutton pierce, too...but I figured "Damn it, I'm getting *something* pierced", which is how I ended up with a ring through my nipple.
