Today I was driving across Mercer Island on my way to pick up something in Bellevue, and the little red warning light in my dashboard started flashing. Given that I blew up the car I had when I was 16 by not heeding the warning of a similar little red light, I pulled over and drove to an auto shop. They told me I'd blown my head gasket. Having researched VW Vanagons at lenght before buying this one, I knew what that meant...a couple grand. Merry Christmas, eh?
So I had the AAA folks tow it to my real mechanic, Ray at the VW Tec Shop, who I love, and he told me it was just a leaky fitting and a bad hose! Yay!!!!!
Thanks to my mommy for coming and rescuing me. And can I just tell you that when you own a VW bus, AAA is absolutely essential, and so is having a mechanic you trust.

Man, when I saw the headline, I thought it was like the last one.
But then it got worse! And then better! Much much better! Now, I need an emotional rest. :-)
Mechanics just LOVE to tell you that you've blown a head gasket because it's a ridiculously expensive repair, most people wouldnt know the difference, and you essentially can't move the car without re-towing it. Ooooh mechanics annoy me sometimes... Glad you have a good one...

To top it off, later when I was taking a nap, the doorbell rang, and I figured it was the UPS guy. Knowing packages have been stolen off of our porch before, I went down to get it. Walked out on the porch, and the door closed and locked behind me, leaving me on the porch in the rain in my PJ's for an hour while I waited for Michael to come home. It's not my day!
