My hair is red. Not just red-hair-red, but red like flame, red a color no human ever grew on their head naturally. In-your-face, I-had-to-bleach-it-first-to-get-it-this-color red. On my head.
I've never colored my hair before. Well, there was that one time in the 7th grade when I bleached my hair blond with 3 bottles of Sun-In and my mom made my dye it back, but other than that, my hair has always been just like the rest of me, natural.
But it's red now, and I like it. I did it for Burning Man, thinking I'd dye it back when I got home, but now I'm attached. I like red on my head. It's fun.
I'm not really sure how my new color is going over at work. Maybe parents think it's unprofessional. Maybe my boss thinks it's unprofessional. I'm not sure. This much I know...kids like it.
I had this patient the other day who had just had her tonsils out. Five years old, big eyes. She nodded and shook her head to answer questions for the 15 minutes I spent assessing her, never saying a word, but communicating with gestures and nods. Then, as I walked out of her room, she called out loudly "I really like your hair! It's really red!".
Yep, it's really red.

I visited your lomo home i really like your lomo pictures. I need to get some of mine on the lomo site. I just got a colorflash for mine but havent had too good of results yet I think i need to take photos in darker situations. How do you hold yoru camera so still for like the space needle shot, I can never hold my lomo still for like a 3 second exposure, maybe im just too shakey.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Crayola hair! Yes, the kids do love it, don't they? My favorite is the look moms give me when their little girls say "Mommy, Mommy, LOOK! She has PINK HAIR!" The mommy always looks at me with complete exasperation, as though to say "Oh sure, go right ahead and make my daughter drive me crazy asking me why she can't have pink hair, too". ... I can't wait to see it!

Whaddya mean "my mom made me dye it back?" I have pictures of you growing out that lovely Sun In 'do.....maybe the bleaching part of this new hair do cleansed out some memory cells???

It was Joy who bleached her hair and I made her dye it back or stay "grounded" until it grew back. You girls seem to mix up yourselves, some times. Jill is right!
I'm sorry I missed your tomato hair. It was so beautiful the natural color but you are beautiful always, anyway. Guess I'll see it soon enuf.

yeah, dawn, we want a photo!! sport that 'do proudly : ) i can't wait to see it! yay! and kids do LOVE unnatural hair. one of jade's teachers has pink hair and i love justifying myself by referring to her. like, 'oh please, my daughter's teacher has pink hair'...
maybe you'll start a fad at the hospital : )

Pictures: Well, the one I posted here shows it just a little. That's the problem with being behind the camera, you're not in the pictures. When Michael and Kalea get theirs developed, there should be some...
And as for Jill and Mom, you're both wrong. Mom did make me dye it back, but the brown dye washed out and hence it grew out blond with dark roots for a good chunk of 7th grade. So there!

So the latest kid at work to comment on my hair was a 4-year-old girl who said I looked "just like Ariel from the Little Mermaid". She spent the rest of the day calling me "Nurse Ariel". What can I say? Red hair is fun.
