This week's Photo Friday topic is timely: Faith.
Burning Man this year was all about exploring faith, with the art theme Beyond Belief. As in past years, David Best and his crew amazed the masses with another fabulous temple, the Temple of Honor. It was made of mainly cardboard tubes and other cardboard pieces covered in black and white religious and spiritual motifs. The sheer size of it was absolutely awe-inspiring, and at dawn, it was far and away the most beautiful thing on the playa.
Just like last year, the burning of the temple was the most symbolic and meaningful Burning Man ritual for me. We thought we weren't going to see it, as a few hours before the scheduled burn on Sunday night, an enormous dust storm whited out the playa, and we took refuge in the VW until only 45 minutes or so before the temple burned. It was worth riding out the storm and was the perfect conclusion to our week. It was quitet, spiritual, and a last chance to honor what mattered most to us, until next year.
