The Crime and the Guilty Party

I've had a case of gastrointestinal upset the past couple days, so I've been sticking to bland foods (bread, rice, soup...). So this morning I went into the kitchen to make some toast, and find that my one and only loaf of bread has been mauled. The top has been munched right off, plastic and all.

My first thought was "Oh my god, do we have mice?" Looking again at the extent of the damage, my next thought is "Or rats?" But then I remember Schmoo, my room-mate's cat. "Yes, of course," I think. "Schmoo."

So I dig into the very back of the bag and find two whole pieces of bread, un-mauled, and as far as I can tell, unlicked by kitty. I pop them in the toaster, and then wander away, distracted. By the time I remember the toast, it's burnt.

So now I have a dilemma. Which is potentially worse for me? Carcinogens from burnt toast, or cat spit? I decide that cat spit probably tastes better, and proceed to toast the next-least-damaged pieces of bread.

So am I going to die from cat-spit poisoning?

When I was in high school with a raging metabolism, I used to share a box of mac n' cheese with my cat every day after school. She'd eat from one side, me the other. It would completely gross my sister out, but she never ate a lot.

I didn't die.

I don't know if you remember TC, the cat we got in high school, the one after Betsy? Anyway, she used to use any means possible to break into containers of doughnuts (oh what she would have given to have experienced Krispy Kreme!)....and, you know me, when am I *ever* going to pass up a doughnut? The cat spit never got to me. Of course, I realize my opinion will be discounted by at least 50% given the fact that I have chosen to live with four cats...:-)
